Calibration is how well your confidence lines up with reality. If you feel 90% sure and you're right about 90% of the time, you're well calibrated. If you feel sure but you're often wrong, you're overconfident.
It matters because learners use their confidence to decide what to study next. Feeling you already know something is exactly when you stop working on it, so overconfidence quietly leaves gaps unfilled. Noticing the gap between feeling and fact is the first move in studying smarter.
Each dot is a level of confidence you used. The dotted line is perfect calibration. Dots below the line mean you were more sure than you were right (overconfident); dots above mean you sold yourself short.
